Each municipality in Nuevo León has its own municipal coat of arms. The adoption of local coats of arms
started around the '80's as typical throughout the Federation. Many were approved by the Nuevo León Society of History, Geography, and Statistics, which sought all Municipalities
to have a coat of arms during that time
Some of the more common themes in the creations of local municipal coats of arms are
the colonization (Spaniards), a local church, geography (mountains or waterfalls), and agriculture (usually through walnut trees or vegetables). Very often, an iconic figure such as the namesake of a municipality
or a founder are depicted in its inescutcheon. Industry is often represented by a cogwheel; education by a book.
But by far the most interesting thing is that most of these municipalities have the same format. They have the sameness to the coat of arms of the State: a knight's helmet above the shield or
sometimes another figure, with a historic name usually in the border and sometimes the same symbols as the state coat of arms. Under these shields, a ribbon in the National Colors more often
than not reads the Municipal Name, though sometimes it is the inverse. These coats of arms most often
are also divided into four sections, with an inescutcheon in the center. Usually, the Lion of the Kingdom of Nuevo León is depicted in the upper-right section.
A very important source for the research of these municipalities is this site: https://archivos.juridicas.unam.mx/www/bjv/libros/7/3267/17.pdf.
Many descriptions regarding the symbols are found here.
