The coat of arms was adopted through a committee; the jury was composed of José P. Saldaña, Tomás Mendirichaga, el Alfonso Reyes Aurrecoechea, Humberto Buentello Chapa, Enrique Segmuller, Renato Cantú González, Arnulfo Flores Rodríguez, and Hermilo Cisneros. The design by the painter Manuel Cisneros was chosen as the municipal coat of arms. Under the shield is a ribbon reading SAN PEDRO GARZA GARCÍA, N.L. At the top is a sun, paying homage to the first populators. The sides read LIBERTAD CON ORDEN Y JUSTICIA [Liberty with Order and Justice]. At the bottom are the years 1596 - 1882; when the land was granted and when it became a Municipality, respectively. The inner area is divided into four sections. The upper-left section depicts mountains (shaped as an M for the Sierra Madre), with a walnut tree in front of silver and blue waves; this represents the watering hole called Los Nogales (meaning "walnut trees") around which the first settlement was built. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts two keys crossed together (the keys to Heaven), giving tribute to Saint Peter as the municipality carries his name. The lower-right section depicts an ear of wheat and cob of corn crossed together through a cogwheel; these symbolize agriculture, a historical economic activity, and industrialization.
