The coat of arms was adopted during the Municipal Administration of 1980-1982 under Rolando Rodríguez Fernández. On 11 December 1981, the Nuevo León Society of History, Geography, and Statistics approved the design of the coat of arms of García, being designed by Javier Ortega. The coat of arms has the same form as that of the State, having at the top a helmet and at the bottom a ribbon in the national colors reading GARCIA, N.L. To the sides of the shield are the words IN UNITATE SUPERATIO [In Unity, Overcoming]. At the bottom of the border are the years 1851, when it became a municipality; and 1981, the adoption of the coat of arms.

The upper-left section depicts the Cabeza del Indio Hill, prominent in the Sierra del Fraile. A car and a railway can be seen leading into a cave, prominent in the local tourism. The upper-right depicts a crowned red lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left depicts a cogwheel for industry, principal source of work here. The lower-right section depicts the center of the city, including the Temple of San Juan Bautista, patron saint of the municipality; the principal plaza, and surrounding buildings, as well as the Sierra del Fraile in the background. In the center, the inescutcheon carries a border reading DE GARCIA ARRIBA NADIE DIGA [Of García no one says anything higher]. In its center, a heron with its wings spread out. This is a coat of arms of the García surname.
