The coat of arms was adopted in 1994, being modified by Municipal Chronicler Jesús Erasmo Leal Flores. He changed it in accordance with heraldic rules. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having at the top a helmet and a ribbon under the shield in the National Colors, reading LIBERTAD TRABAJO PROGRESO [Liberty, Work, Progress]. The sides of the border read Valle de San Felipe de Jesús de China, its original name. At the bottom of the border is its name, CHINA N.L.; to its sides, the years 1796, when it was founded, and 1812, when it was renamed to China. The upper-left section depicts bovines in a pen, symbolizing cattle-raising, The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts a bridge over the San Juan river, motive for the foundation of the town; a Northern sombrero is found above this, with mountains being visible and two guns together under. The lower-right section depicts the San Felipe de Jesús church. In the center is an inescutcheon depicting a dam, remembering the El Cuchillo dam found just outside of the city.
