Coat of Arms

from Wikimedia Commons

The coat of arms of Galeana was adopted in 1985 under the administration of Municipal President Jesús Luna Aguillón (1983-1985). It was designed by Olga Martha Gutiérrez Landeros through a contest with six submissions; previously a call for submissions was launched. Changes were realized during the time of Martín de León Acosta (1986-1988) solicited through the Deparatment of Social Action headed by Manuel Mejorado Hernández. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having at the top a helmet and at the bottom a ribbon in the National Colors reading 1678 Labor Omnia Vincit 1877 [Work Overcomes All; the year 1678 is of its foundation and 1877 is the year it became a City]. To the sides of the border are indigenous weapons: arrows and bows to the left; Spanish ones to the right, that is: guns, a sword, and war hammers. The upper part of the border depicts products of the region: a cob of corn, ear of wheat, potato, and apple. At the bottom of the border is GALEANA NUEVO LEON.

The shield is divided into four sections and has an inescutcheon in the center. The upper-left section depicts the colonization of the land by the Spanish, the Cerro del Potosí and a tree are in the background. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts the Temple of San Pablo. The lower-right section depicts an open book for knowledge and culture. Finally, the inescutcheon depicts an image of Hermenegildo Galeana, who the Municipality is named after.
