The coat of arms was adopted in 1984 during the term of Municipal President Guadalupe Eglof de Lecea. It was designed by Prof. Ernesto Villarreal Villarreal, being adopted through a call for submissions from the council. The coat of arms has a similar form as the coat of arms of the State, having at the top a helmet. Below in some versions is a ribbon in the National Colors reading CD. VILLALDAMA N.L. To the sides are the words REAL DE SAN PEDRO BOCA DE LEONES; at the bottom are the years 1690, of its foundation, and 1984, the year of its creation. The upper-left section depicts the church of San Pedro Apóstol. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, a symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts the Valley of Boca de Leones, with an ear of wheat and bovine visible, economic activities of the area; through it is the Sabinas River and in the background the Gomas Mountains. The lower-right section depicts the Municipal Building. In the center is an inescutcheon, depicting a miner's helmet over a crossed pick and shovel, which remembers the work that went into the foundation of Villaldama.
