Coat of Arms

from hcnl.gob.mx

The council informed me they could not find information regarding the coat of arms. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the State, having a helmet on top and a ribbon in the National Colors below, reading HIDALGO, N.L. The border reads HACIENDA DE NTRA. SRA. DEL PUEBLITO, the Hacienda that existed here originally at the time of its foundation. At the bottom (note: some versions carry 1611 and 1828), the years 1828, when it became a municipality; and 1982, the year the coat of arms was adopted, are commonly read. The upper-left section depicts the Municipal Building with its bell. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts the church of Nuestra Señora del Pueblito. The lower-right section depicts the Portland Cement Factory, the first in Mexico. In the center is an inescutcheon depicting the figure of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who the municipality is named after.
