Coat of Arms

The council informed me information regarding the background of the municipal coat of arms could not be found in the municipal archives. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having a helmet at the top and a ribbon below in the National Colors reading Evolución Constante, its motto. The sides of the border depict products of the Valley, such as: avocado, nut, peach, orange, apple, and corn. At the top is the original name, San José de Río Blanco. At the bottom is 1626 Gral. Zaragoza N.L 1866; its foundation and the year it became a municipality respectively. The shield is divided into four sections, having an inescutcheon in the center. The upper-left section depicts the El Salto waterfall. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts the old San José church. The lower-right section depicts the Cerro Viejo hill, and in front of it is an orchard of orange trees, avocado, and nuts; the sun can also be seen. The inescutcheon depicts the effigy of General Ignacio Zaragoza, who the municipality is named after.
