Coat of Arms

from Wikimedia Commons

The coat of arms was last modified in 1998; the original was designed by Héctor Javier Barbosa Alanis through a proposal by the chronicler of Santiago, today the historical and cultural commission, to the municipal council. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having a helmet at the top and a ribbon under in the National Colors reading CULTURA Y PROGRESO. At the top of the border is 1831, the year its name became Santiago. To the left is 1646 CAYUCUAPA, the original name; to the right, 1712 VALLE DE GUAXUCO, the establishment of the first council. At the bottom is SANTIAGO, N.L. The upper-left section depicts a representation of the Municipal Building. The upper-right section depicts the Cola de Caballo waterfall; the lower-left section depicts two apple trees and an apple on a hill, representing the Sierra Madre Oriental and fruticulture. The lower-right section depicts the Santiago Apóstol church, who the municipality is also named after. In the center is an inescutcheon bearing a red crowned rampant lion, symbol of the state.

First Coat of Arms

from archivos.juridicas.unam.mx

The first coat of arms was adopted in the 70's. In the upper sections are (left) the Cola de Caballo waterfall and (upper-right) Rodrígo Gómez dam and the sun over it, mountains in the distance. At the top of the shield, ornamentation is seen instead of a helmet. To the sides; CUARISEZAPA, the original name of the valley (left) and VALLE DEL GUAJUCO (right); at the top SANTIAGO, N.L. and at the bottom MUNICIPIO TURISTICO [Tourist Municipality].
