The coat of arms of Cerralvo was adopted in 1982, under administration under Municipal President José G. Garza. It has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having a helmet at the top and a ribbon below reading CERRALVO CUNA STATUS, signifying that Cerralvo is the cradle of the state. To the left side of the ribbon is the year 1582; in some versions, 1982 on the right when the coat of arms was created. The original name, CIUDAD DE LEON, is read to the sides. The upper-left section depicts the El Sabinal National Park, located in the City. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The lower-left section depicts a row of trees and the Municipal Building. The lower-right section depicts the San Gregorio Magno church. Finally, in the center is an inescutcheon; it is the shield of Don Rodrigo de Pacheco y Osorio, the shield being placed on another shield. The city was named after this Viceroy.
