Flags are printed using the screen printing principle whereby the material (polyester/cotton mix in this country but mainly nylon in the US) is placed on a flat bed and then an image is "screened" with the ink/dye being squeezed onto the material. The smaller manufacturers use a table whereby each colour is applied separately but the larger manufacturers can machine print so the whole process is automated. Once the colours have been applied, the material is steamed (cured for colour fastness) and then dried, after which the material is cut and sewn into the flag.
