The flag is a horizontal tribar of red-white-red. The main centerpiece is a white disk with the depiction of the Six Lakes Depot, a former depot located in the community of Six Lakes used by the Pere Marquette Railway. Located under the depot is the Chain of lakes, which is made of six separate lakes (even though second and third are basically one) that form the headwaters of the flat river, and the slogan underneath make's it clear what it is. At the top is the township's name and establishment year. A blue border is formed by around the disk in the white bar. On the fly side is a depiction of an oil derrick for the oil industry that the area had seen as part of a larger oilfield that covered much of the central and northern mitten.
