Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Vert, a radiant sun Or with face, in dexter chief a torch Or, in sinister chief a lyre Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "MADALENA - VILA NOVA DE GAIA".
Meaning:
The sun is symbolizing the famous local beach and richness in general. The torch is simbolizing the importance of the local history, the existence of an ancient fortification and the importance of torches as lightfires for coastal shipping, the lyre is representing the cultural and spiritual endowment of the locals. The base wavy is representing the Atlantic. The green colour of the shield is symbolizing forestal riches and agriculture.
