About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure, an embattled bordure Or masoned Sable, in chief a mitre Or decorated Gules, in base two sycamore leaves Argent ordered per fess. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS DE SÉ ESÃO LOURENÇO".
Meaning:
The mitre is representing former Sé commune. The leaves are reminding on the sycamore of Rossio, which had been planted by botanist José Maria Grande. Furthermore it is representing former São Lourenço commune. The embattled bordure is reminding on the great tradition, local heritage and the walled city of Sé.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure, a bishop's mitre Or garnished Gules flanked by two open books Argent bound Gules, in chief a 5-point star Or, in base an upper demi-cogwheel Argent, flanked by two olive branches Or in orle. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SÉ - PORTALEGRE".
Meaning:
The star is an attribute of St. Mary, the local patron saint.

Meaning:
The gridiron is an attribute of St. Lawrence, the local patron saint. The leaf is representing the sycamore of Rossio.
