The coat of arms was presented by Prof. Jesús Reyes by his decision and adopted as the municipal coat of arms. According to Chapter II of the Municipal Regulations:
I.- The Official Coat of Arms of Santiago Papasquiaro and of the Municipality of santiago represents its history from its foundation and is conformed of the following manner:
a).- In the Upper part of the shield it carries a flag of purple color and in the center the Coat of Arms of the Villa of Santiago, representing the union of the indigenous and Spanish race.
b).- In the right part the forest which represents the forestal wealth of the municipality and the complex of forestal Mexican products, representing its industry.
c).- To the background the Papanton. [Papantón Hill]
d).-The River of Santiago to which the Tagarete Arroyo is united mentioned in its corrido and the colonial settlement of its population.
e).- The Violin of Silvestre Revueltas, representing the illustrious men in its music, art, and culture.
f).- The Arches [at the entrance to the city], Symbol of welcoming to visitors.
g).- In the lower part a cob of corn which represents the traditional elaboration of pinole.
h).- To the center the Indian, in progressive ascent in the culture and art with unity and work.
i).- The book printed in its front page the year of its foundation and the books in form of doves as a symbol of peace (papasquialli).
j).- In its written material the history of our municipality, Santiago papasquiaro.
k).- Revealed and declared Official Coat of Arms of Santiago papasquiaro, Dgo., by the Mr. Governor, Graduate Armando del Castillo Franco, the 17th of April 1984.
