Coat of Arms

image from sefircoahuila.gob.mx

The coat of arms was adopted in 1980, being designed by the professor from Saltillo named Francisco Javier Mendoza Jaramillo; the process of adoption is unknown. The border is scrolled, reading the motto SOLAR LEGENDARIO, TIERRA GENEROSA [Legendary Solar, Generous Land] to the sides. Above the shield is a duck (pato) in flight, an allegory of the Hacienda San Francisco de Patos. The upper-left depicts the coat of arms of Francisco de Urdiñola, a tower with a ring over it and having a ribbon over it; a star is imposed on it. In older versions the ring reads "Urdiñola Antiquissimum Solium" [Ancient Lineage of the Urdiñolas]; on the ribbon "Virtus in actu" [Victorious in the battles]. The upper-right depicts the Sierra de Los Patos (mountains) and a river through it. The lower-left depicts a row of trees in front of the mountains, abundant in the region. The lower-right depicts a fox, representing the people and the fauna.
