The coat of arms of Castaños was adopted in 1986 and adopted through a contest held by the Government of the State, the winner being José Alfredo Peña Contreras. The outer area is in the form of a scroll. Above the main device is the year 1674, when it was founded. Above this is a ribbon that reads SANTA CECILIA DE CASTAÑO. At the bottom, a bovine and horse next to each other for cattle-raising; to the left, a cob of corn; and to the right, an ear of wheat. In the upper-left section, the image of Colonel Ildefonso Fuentes, hero from the area during the Reform Period. The upper-right section depicts a plough through a field, representing agriculture. The lower section depicts, in the background, the hills that flank the valley of Castaños: the Cerro de la Gloria and Mercado Hill (left). Crossing through is the Castaños River; to its right, a row of walnut trees as a main economic drive here; to the left, a desert environment with lechuguilla agave plants that grow here.
