The municipality of Takestan (80,299 inhabitants in 2016) is located in north-western Iran. The Takestani dialect, spoken in Takestan, is a branch of the Tati language, one of the most traditional Northwestern Iranian languages in the Indo-European languages family. Tati has been categorized by UNESCO�s �Atlas of the World�s Languages in Danger� project as a �definitely endangered language.� Tati and Persian are in the same language family called �Western Iranian� languages.

The bunch of grapes makes the emblem canting. �Takestan� literally and figuratively means "Vineyard". Takestan with 35000 hectares of vineyards in Iran is the second largest city in grapes producing. In September 1938 the city's name �Syadn" formally changed to Takestan by the Academy of language and Culture of Iran. 70% of the grapes become raisins and sultanas that is exported to Russia, Ukraine and other Central Asian countries and Europe, in addition to domestic consumption.
