Presentation of Dubrava

The municipality of Dubrava (5,478 inhabitants in 2001, 1,275 in the village of Dubrava) is located southeast of Vrbovec, some 50 km east of Zagreb (not to be confused with the former Community of Dubrava of the same name, which was part of the Town of Zagreb).
Dubrava, mentioned already in 1094 in a charter issued by King Ladislaus I, had in the Middle Ages a fortification with nine towers, placed under the jurisdiction of the bishops of Zagreb.
The Parliament of Croatia met there in 1527, electing John Zápolya as the Croatian king, opposed to the Cetingrad Assembly of 1526/27 electing Ferdinand Habsburg as the king, and resulting in a long civil war until Zápolya's death in 1540, when the Habsburs prevailed.

Flag of Dubrava

The symbols of Dubrava are described in the 2001 Municipality Statutes. This is repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Dubrava, adopted on 20 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 10 August 2009 in the Zagreb County official gazette Glasnik Zagrebačke županije, No. 20.

The flag is described in Article 7 of the Statutes, as follows:

The flag of the municipality of Dubrava is green and contains, on each side in the centre, the coat of arms of the municipality.

The coat of arms is described in Article 6 of the Statutes, as follows:

The coat of arms of the municipality of Dubrava is the historical coat of arms, which in a shield includes the figure of a deer on grass jumping to the right, on a sky blue background.

The design is based on a seal dated 1636. The modern version is similar, but not completely identical to the colored version shown by Lašovski [lsv39].

Klinička bolnica Dubrava (= Clinical Hospital Dubrava) in Zagreb is internationally known by its English name Dubrava University Hospital.

KB Dubrava is a clinical and teaching hospital in the east of Zagreb. Although KB Dubrava was completed and began operating in May 1988, its history is much longer and represents the continuity of the work of the previous Military Hospital, which can be traced back to 1782, when it was first formed from the then garrison hospitals.

The military history of the hospital is also evident in the military green color on the logo and flag, which are taken from the facade of the building, while the oval shapes on the logo are actually the windows of the hospital itself.
