Croatia Records is the oldest and leading record company in Croatia. The
company was founded as Elektroton in 1938, nationalised in 1947 as Jugoton,
renamed in 1991 to Croatia Records.
However, the beginnings of gramophone
record production in Croatia date back to 1924, when the first gramophone record
workshop began operating under the name "Edison Bell Penkala Ltd. Zagreb", which
was a joint venture between Edison Bell England and inventor Slavoljub Penkala.
But it only lasted until 1933.
