The municipality of Komotini (66,919 inhabitants in 2011; 64,470 ha) was formed in the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the three former municipalities of Komotini (60,648 inh.; 38,540 ha), Aigeiros (Αίγειρος, 4,418 inh.), and Neo Siderochori (Νέο Σιδηροχώρι, 3,497 inh.).

Former municipality of Aigeiros

The flag of the former municipality of Aigeiros was white with its emblem. The emblem shows grapes, trees, birds, the face of a Greek statue, and the sea, in a blue circle (Kokkonis website).
