Savigny-sur-Orge (37,371 inhabitants in 2021, 697 ha) is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France, in the département of Essonne.
A seigneurial and monastic estate from the Middle Ages, Savigny-sur-Orge was built around the castle occupied by illustrious families and developed from the arrival of the railway at the end of the 19th century. The subdivision of Les Côteaux (the slopes) and the Plateau, the construction of large housing estates multiplied by twenty the population of the town in a century, to make it the fourth city of the department. Savigny-sur-Orge is connected to the region's major urban and economic poles by an RER line and the A6 motorway, but has few industrial and commercial spaces.

The flag of Savigny sur-Orge (photo, 2020) is white with the logo adopted in 2018.
The logo is, made after the lion and banner of the coat of arms.
The arms of Savigny-sur-Orge are blazonned: Or a lion rampant gules holding a silver mast with a banner per fess of
azure and gules, a chief azure semy de lys or.
The coat of arms created in 1952 by an inhabitant of Savigny is inspired by
that of Marshal Davout.
Louis-Nicolas d'Avout (10 May 1770 – 1 June 1823), 1st Duke of Auerstaedt,
1st Prince of Eckmühl, was a French military commander and Marshal of the
Empire who served during both the French Revolutionary Wars and the
Napoleonic Wars. His talent for war along with his reputation as a stern
disciplinarian earned him the nickname "The Iron Marshal". In 1802, he
bought the castle of Savigny and the family worked for the development of
the city by actively participating in communal life: election of the
marshal, then his son and his son-in-law as mayor, donations of land for the
construction of a railway station, of a new town hall and school building,
construction and donation of a school for girls... The castle is now a
high-school.
