Nielsen Chartering A/S

The company was based in Svendborg. The flag was white flag bordered blue; in bottom two wavy stripes; a lot of rectangles, all blue.

I found that Neale Rosanoski indicates in his album 3 waves for Nielsen´s house flag with the following note: "Brown shows the design as taking most of the flag field and funnel band and shows only two wavy lines in base. (Brown 1995 No. 676 notes). History: -1985-1992-" Josef Nüsse shows on his website a flag with 3 waves like Nielsen Chartering. Echoship would be the continuation of Nielsen Chartering.

Nordana Line

[Possible Flag of Nordana Line] image by Jorge Candeias, 4 December 2005

Quoting from the 'Profile' section of the Nordana website:
"The name Nordana Line is taken from its NORwegian and DANish background. The service started in 1957 as a joint venture between Norwegian Fearnley & Eger and Danish DFDS. Later on F & E decided to withdraw and the service continued under Danish management, but the name remains as strong as ever. Initially the service was based on carryings from Mediterranean to Caribbean, Central America and Mexico, and the vessels returned to Mediterranean via USA/Scandinavia. With the upswing of oil and gas exploration in North Africa, a direct service from USA to Mediterranean was implemented in 1961, and the calls at Scandinavian ports were suspended. In 1969 four conventional sister vessels with 85 tons heavy-lift capacity were introduced in the service to accommodate the increasing demand for larger and heavier pieces of cargo to North Africa. (...) Nordana Line has since expanded the geographic scope, improved the frequencies and widened its services to become one of the premier Multipurpose RoRo liner carriers. Today Nordana Line is recognised as a specialty carrier..."

The head office is located in Rungsted Kyst. The Nordana website shows a tiny flag on a dark blue background - perhaps the swallowtail is really placed on a blue field?
Jan Mertens, 3 Dec 2005

Jan Mertens could be right: the corporate newsletter of Dannebrog Lines shows the logos of both Dannebrog and Weco lines (both parts of Nordana). The Dannebrog logo is a swallowtailed Dannebrog on a blue rectangle, and the Weco logo is a rectangular Dannebrog on a blue rectangle. I guess a Danish company called Dannebrog had to use some adaptation of the national flag as their logo.
Dean McGee, 3 Dec 2005

At Nordana website is a promo, in three languages, here, and as often happens in promos, one of the first shots is of the flag. Indeed, it is a split-flag Dannebrog on a blue field. Not much later is a shot of a beige(?) funnel, with a narrow blue top and a wide blue band with the same split-flag on it, in relief.

Dampskibselskabet "Norden" (Copenhagen)

[Flag of Dampskibselskabet "Norden"] image by Ivan Sache, 16 Nov 2002

The company is based in København. The flag is red ith a white seven-pointed star. This is the Maersk Line star, is not it? We show a similar flag for P. Brown Jun. & Co.

No, Norden was established in 1871, the first Maersk company (D/S Svendborg) is from 1904.
    Ole Andersen, 16 Nov 2002

The company website reports Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S - blue-white-red-white-blue horizontal (~3:1:6:1:3) with 8 points star on the red stripe.
    Dov Gutterman, 17 October 2003

Peter Brown, followed by P. Brown Jnr & Co., were operators at least, possibly even owners, although they are not mentioned by Lloyds from the 1960s. Sources usually showed both names but Stewart (1953) has only shown that of Brown.
    Neale Rosanoski, 27 Apr 2004

I checked the company website to find the flag described by Dov Gutterman but the nearest seems to be their addition to the letter "E" in their name heading of the red flag with star which could be construed to represent a multi banded flag except the top and bottom would be black not blue. The site also shows the plain flag with star flying over their building on the history page so I think that the name logo is in fact misleading and in fact it looks more like the funnel except that it does not show the star i.e. black with a red band edged by two narrow white bands. My guess is that they have combined the two in order to make their logo.

    Nordic Tank Ships I/S

[Flag of Nordic Tank Ships I/S] image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 30 May 2025

The company was based in København. The flag was white white with green fowl anchor in bend and green dotted inscription "N.T." in lower fly.
The funnel is yellow with old shield logo of BP (British Petroleum), thus the company belonged to BP or its partners were operating exclusively for that petrol company.
