Description of coat of arms:
Shield Gules masoned Sable, a window Or rounded in top, charged with a pit lamp Sable with light Argent, in base a bar wavy Or.
Meaning:
The charges are referring to mining. Lengede got a doubtful kind of fame by a mining desaster, which occurred on 24 October 1963 and ended on 7 November 1963 with the "miracle of Lengede". Water broke into the mine and 43 miners were buried alive. It was possible to rescue at least 14 of them.

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted per fess, above Or a trefoil green, beneath Sable a cross lozengy Or buttoned Gules.
Meaning:
The clover leaf (trefoil) is a canting symbol, the name can be derived from Waldwiese, a forest-meadow. The leaf is referring to Wiesche (=meadow) in the name. The base displays a bronze cross dating from the 9th century, which was excavated near the village. It is symbolising the long inhabitation of the area.
