Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a white-red-white horizontal triband with stripes of equal width. In the upper stripe at the hoist are two red leaves of water lily fess.
Meaning:
Stadler mentions a tricolour in 1970, probably plain, the leaves are taken from the arms of the Counts of Tecklenburg, the former rulers.

Shield Or, an antler Gules, in chief a bar wavy Azure.
Meaning:
The bar wavy is representing Marka Creek, the antler the partially protected forests of Markatal and Eleonorenwald. The flag colours are those of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg.
