To help celebrate the 30th anniversary of its reincorporation as a town, Mayor
Deb Florence raised Coalhurst’s new flag on December 2, 2025.
The
rebranding of the crest, logo, and flag is inspired by the Art Deco style of the
1930s, the decade that shaped the town’s history, and creates a timeless look
that carries it to the future. The crest is a circle to bring everyone together
with wholeness and unity. At the right and left sides are sunbeams pointing
outwards to energy and a bright future. In the center is a diamond, which is a
tribute to the town motto: Pressura gemmas facit – Pressure makes diamonds.
The colors of the flag are similar to those of the previous flag that had a
coal cart logo but are warmer and earthier to reflect the prairie soil, wood
grain, and coal seams the town stands upon. The purple reflects pride,
perseverance, and personality, and the gold reflects the optimism and generosity
of a growing, welcoming community.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary of being incorporated as a town,
Coalhurst, Alberta, revealed a new logo, which was produced via a contest
and is the basis of its new flag adopted in 2020. The logo includes houses
representing the community, a yellow sun symbolizing a bright future, a mine
shaft under the community for the hard work and principles of settlers of
the area, and a train track to connect the present to the past and to
represent progression, industry, and the path forward.

Description of the logo: https://coalhurst.ca/2020/06/01/new-town-logo/:
The logo: https://www.facebook.com/TownOfCoalhurst/
- The community is built on the mine cart, remembering the principles and effort of those who came before.
- The mine cart is a symbol of our past and can be found in many places around Town. It signifies the sacrifices and hard work of the early settlers of the area.
- Houses represent the members of our present-day community.
- The yellow sun arches over the community, symbolizing a bright future and also gives a nod to our "sunny" southern Alberta region and Town colour.
- The train track is a prominent and an unignorable landmark. It connects the present to the past, representing progression, industry, and moving forward.
- The "t" in the town name has been replaced by a miner's pickaxe, as a subtle reminder of our past.
- Depicted in purple, a traditional Town colour, the slogan depicts openness and belonging while also playing on the word "mine" recognizing the Town's past industry.

According to Marge Williams, Chief Administrative Officer, Town of
Coalhurst, the coal miner illustrated on the town's flag was taken
from a ceramic miner made by a resident in the early 1980s - the
yellow stripes represent looking into the future. The Town of
Coalhurst (population: 1,493) is located west of the City of
Lethbridge in Southern Alberta.
